FLUSHING HYDRANTS

THE CITY OF SUTHERLAND WILL BE FLUSHING WATER HYDRANTS THE WEEK OF MAY 16, 2022. THIS IS NEEDED TO HELP KEEP THE WATER LINES FREE OF MINERALS DEPOSITS. YOU MAY EXPERIENCE SOME WATER DISCOLORATION DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FLUSHING. IF YOU DO, YOU NEED TO RUN YOUR WATER UNTIL IT IS CLEAR. REMEMBER TO CHECK THE HOT WATER TO SEE IF THE DISCOLORED WATER WENT TO YOUR WATER HEATER. TRY TO AVOID LAUNDERING WHITES AND LIGHT COLORS WHILE YOU HAVE DISCOLORED WATER. YOU MAY ALSO EXPERIENCE SOME DECREASE IN WATER PRESSURE DURING THE FLUSHING. THIS WILL BE TEMPORARY AND SHOULD RETURN TO NORMAL ON ITS OWN AFTER THE FLUSHING IS COMPLETED IN YOUR AREA. WATER REPORT WILL NOT BE MAILED

The Sutherland Consumer Confidence Report for the Sutherland Water Supply will be published in the O’Brien County’s Bell-Times Courier May 12th. The report can be found at the Gen N.B. Baker Library, Sutherland Post Office, city website at www.sutherlandiowa.com or copies are available at City Hall upon request.

Police Officer Position

City of Sutherland, IA is looking to fill the position of Police Officer. PUBLIC NOTICE – THE CITY IS ACCEPTING SEALED BIDS TO RENT PASTURE LAND

The City of Sutherland will be accepting sealed bids for pasture land located along First St. This will be a 3 year lease. The City has approximately 1.5 acres of pasture ground available. The pasture has a creek running through it for water. The renter will be allowed no more than 3 horses on the ground. The renter will also be responsible for mowing the pasture, maintaining weed control, maintaining fences, mowing along First St and keeping the sidewalk clear year round. Rent is due within 30 days of signing lease with the City and due by May 1st in one payment, each year after. Bids must be submitted to the City Clerk in a sealed envelope at City Hall, 110 Ash St, by no later than April 28, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.  Bids will be opened at the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting on May 2, 2022 at 7 p.m.  Please contact City Hall at 712-446-2243 with any questions.

Seasonal Job Opening

The City of Sutherland is taking applications for a seasonal job opening for the Park Custodian. This person will be responsible for opening and closing the shelter house and cleaning after the rentals. This position is for the spring, summer, and fall 2022 seasons. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. EOE.

Applications can be picked up at City Hall, 110 Ash St, Sutherland, IA or found on the City’s website – sutherlandiowa.com. Applications are due by noon on March 31, 2022 at City Hall.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING – PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX LEVY

The City of Sutherland will hold a Proposed Property Tax Levy public hearing on February 7, 2022 @ 7pm at the R.L. Johannsen Center in the meeting room. It is required by law that the local government issue a form showing the proposed levy.

It is important to understand that this is not the total property tax levy. This levy rate does not include Support Public Library, Ag Land and Debt Service levies. It is also important to understand this does not mean this is the finalized rate the City will use, it means the City cannot levy for more than what is proposed on the levies in this notice. When the City’s budget is finalized, the actual tax levy will be published as another public hearing notice. Please contact City Hall with any questions – 712-446-2243.
